Foamed glass aggregates were originally produced in Scandinavia during the 1990s for use as a thermal barrier in road construction. Due to their very low unit weight, their applications have grown throughout the civil engineering market.
The process takes 100% recycled glass powder and mixes it with a foaming agent that is also recycled. The mixed powder is sent through a furnace
and melted. During this process the foaming agent creates bubbles within the melted glass and creates foamed glass aggregates. The foamed glass aggregates produced are approximately 15% the weight of typical aggregates. This makes the material one of the lightest aggregates available on the market.

This low-density product is approximately 85 percent lighter than most natural aggregates.
